The Folk Traditions Store is designed to help you choose learning materials relating to folk groups and to traditions. The media like books, tapes, DVDs, software, etc. are not as important as the peoples or the activities. Therefore, our store is organized by folk groups and by traditions, not by books, tapes, etc. For example, you might be thinking about getting a book on blacksmithing. In The Folk Traditions Store, you will be able to browse not only books on the topic, but these will be mixed in next to the instructional videos on blacksmithing. This organization helps you to focus on what you want to learn and helps you to find a variety of learning tools.

Some people are most interested in a particular cultural group. Others are attracted to a particular tradition no matter where it appeared. To serve those with a cultural emphasis, our store has sections devoted to each people divided into history, geography, music, trades, arts and other traditions. Customers who are more interested in a particular traditional activity can find sections on their favorite tradition containing books and instructional videos from all cultural groups.

  •  Roots - Roots refer to the deep origins of an activity that arise in distant times and places.

Learning materials on the history and geography of Native Americans, Colonial English, Irish, Jewish and African traditions.

  •  Significance - Significance emerges when people learn from each other. Languages, religion, and stories enrich and motivate social learning.

Learning materials on languages, stories and folklore of Creek (Muskogee), Cherokee, Irish Gaelic, Hebrew, Geechee and Gullah peoples.

  •  Harmony - Harmony emerges from ample resources. Civilization can multiply resources a thousand times and more. Therefore, that which enables people to live together cooperatively provides nearly all our resources.

Learning materials relating to specialized crafts, commercial and political activities that contributed to the survival of Savannah's founding cultural groups.

  •  Balance - Balance emerges from variety.

Learning materials relating to activities that complement specialized work, such as music, dance, healing and many domestic activities.

Preserve a tradition. Grow roots, significance, harmony and balance.
