In many parts of this web site, you can see that a guiding principle of the The Folk Traditions Store is that quality products arise from quality relationships. You can see this principle exemplified in the Mission Statement of one of the world's premier folk harp makers, Dusty Strings.

"Dusty Strings is committed to the belief that acoustic music enhances the quality of people’s lives. We support this belief by designing and building acoustic instruments and related products that embody exemplary standards of fine craftsmanship and represent a fair value to our customers... Our mission is:

  •  To help bring acoustic music into people’s lives.

  •  To build long-term relationships with our customers by maintaining courteous, respectful, and honest communications and by standing behind the products we sell.

  •  To treat each other, whether customer, co-worker, owner, supplier, or dealer with respect and concern for the other’s well-being, to operate with integrity in all interactions, and to work to form a foundation of trust.

  •  To strive for continuous improvement in an atmosphere of teamwork, while acknowledging the value of each person’s contribution to our group goals.

  •  To provide meaningful work, fair compensation, and a safe, healthy work environment that encourages open communication, creative thinking, self-discipline, and growth.

  •  To contribute to and affirm a high level of commitment, individual responsibility, skill and effectiveness in the work community.

  •  To nurture a sense of community in the workplace.

  •  To achieve a sufficient profit to allow us to pursue our goals, while behaving in a responsible manner toward our environment and our society."

Rick Rubarth of "R Harps" has been manufacturing experimental harps for 20 years. When he created the Merlin, his goal was to make a very large sounding harp in the smallest package possible. The result is a light-weight harp built with bridge-like engineering precision to create a wonderfully sweet tone that will seduce anyone to increase their practice time. The price is very competitive (under $3,000) for the sound quality and durable construction. The Merlin is now Rick's primary production model, but a production model of the Merlittle is due soon.

Excellence is also found in the work of Triplett Harps. Triplett Harps has been designing and building high quality musical instruments since 1980. Their designs emphasize tonal excellence, graceful lines, and fine workmanship. They feature a wide range of sizes and styles to accommodate the needs of beginning and advanced harpists. Triplett Harps is known for innovation and for dedication to quality. Their experience making 4,000 harps gives them a proven track record and they have one of the longest warranties in the industry. Triplett Harps combines meticulous workmanship with the highest grade materials. Their proven designs and attention to detail ensure many years of musical enjoyment with every harp.

Triplett’s modern facilities give them the design and production capabilities to transcend the traditional limitations of the instrument. Their goal is not to produce historically accurate replicas, but to further the evolution of the contemporary lever harp. They combines meticulous workmanship with the highest grade materials. Their proven designs and attention to detail ensure many years of musical enjoyment with every harp. Triplett accessories include cases, wheel assemblies, strings and levers.

Dwight Blevins has been manufacturing quality, handcrafted Folk Harps for 14 years. Their line of great harps keeps growing every year. They include a variety of lap harps plus double and cross models. They are know for providing excellent value in their harps and also have great prices on slightly blemished harps.

Harpsicles are the invention of Wm Rees. After making custom harps for 25 years, the harpsicle was a response to a folk harp community need for a quality, low cost harp with a pleasing tone for beginner or for travel purposes.

Preserve a tradition. Grow roots, significance, harmony and balance.
