in the Smithsonian Institution's beautiful photographic documentary Heart and Hands: Musical Instrument Makers of America by Jake Jacobson, you can find two large photographs of Ralph Sweet inside and in front of his Connecticut workshop. His flutes are known by folk flutists around the world for their sweetness and accuracy. We offer Sweetheart Flutes Irish style flutes, walking stick flutes, pennywhistles and fifes. The great Joanie Madden, star of the world's all-time best selling whistle album, stopped by our booth at the Savannah Irish Festival and played a variety of whistles. She reserved her highest praise for Sweetheart Flutes, saying "Ralph Sweet's new whistles are wonderful." Jean-Luc Boudreau is a renowned maker of hand crafted recorders. Recently he developed his Aesthé line of semi-handcrafted instruments. Aesthé recorders are of professional quality. They are distinguished by their prominent sonority and careful craftsmanship at a remarkably modest price. They are faithful to the aesthetic criteria suggested by 18th century instruments, but benefit from modern techniques to maximize their tone quality. Each Aesthé instrument has the distinction of being finished and tested according to the standards of high-end recorders also made in Jean-Luc Boudreau's workshop. Moeck Music has been making recorders for nearly seventy-five years. As the recorder returned to the hands of professional musicians in the 1960s, Moeck continuously improved the quality of their instruments through research and responding to demands of professional artists. Moeck is recognized all over the world for its reliable and high standard of quality. The Moeck Rottenburgh is a truly well rounded instrument that remains reliable and easy to play even after extensive use. We chose our Rottenburghs in Maple for its flexible warm and well-balanced sound. |
